POST Office facilities are finally set to return to Kilwinning Main Street.

It comes as a business in the town has confirmed that they are to open a franchise in their store after successfully negotiating the application process.

The facilities are to be offered inside Seymour Discounts, a relatively new business to the street, sometime in the coming months.

The store, which is operated by the same team who used to own Seymour Store and Takeaway in the Dirrans area, confirmed the news earlier today with a post on their social media page.

It said: "We are excited to tell you that we are getting the Post Office in our shop.

"So within the next two to four months (yes it's not quick) it will be up and running in our shop.

"(We are) bringing this end of town back to life. We are community minded people and this is another way of helping the Community out to get what they want back into the town.

"We are here for you guys, so pop in and come and say hi and watch the process happen."

The news has come as a welcome boost to locals who are now looking forward to having the facilities at the shop at 36 Main Street.

One commented: "Wonderful news! Our wee town needs the Post Office back, absolute lifeline to the residents, businesses and small businesses too."

While another added: "Brilliant news! Especially for the auld yins of Kilwinning who’s had to trek to a Post Office."

Kilwinning Main Street has been without a Post Office facility for over six months now.

The previous franchise closed as the former McColl's store was shut down in mid-January of this year under the plans unveiled by Morrisons, which bought its rival for £190m in a rescue deal in May.

The nearest alternative Post Office facility, until the new Main Street franchise is up and running, is located on Sundrum Place in Pennyburn.
