A KILWINNING man has appeared in court in connection with an incident in town at the weekend that saw a man rushed to hospital.

Police were called to a report of an incident in the town’s Cambusdoon Place at around 7.20am on Saturday, March 23.

A 34-year-old man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

George McKnight, 32, appeared in private at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, March 25, charged with assault to severe injury.

Mr McKnight made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody, pending a further court appearance within eight days.

Police previously said a second man, aged 34, had been arrested in connection with the incident but that he was later released without charge.
