Two Ardrossan men have appeared in court after pleading guilty to lashing out at police in a row over loud music in the town.

Colin Wotherspoon, 45, and 42-year-old Paul Blunt, both of Winton Street, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court for sentencing last week.

Wotherspoon had been charged with shouting, swearing, acting in an aggressive manner, uttering threats of violence and grabbing a glass and motioning to throw it towards police.

Blunt, meanwhile, had been charged with assaulting a female police officer by striking her on the body and pushing her against a wall.

Both men committed the offences during an incident at their home address on August 6 last year.

The court heard how police were called to attend the property following a complaint about loud music and noise.

The pair let officers in to show them the noise being made, but they quickly became aggressive, with Wotherspoon shouting, swearing and picking up a glass.

He made a motion to throw it towards police and was Tasered by one of the officers.

At the same time, Blunt grabbed the other officer by the shoulder and pushed them against a wall.

Both were handcuffed and taken to Saltcoats police station, where they were cautioned and charged.

Sheriff Murdoch Mactaggart deferred sentence on both men until later in the year, with Blunt ordered to be of good behaviour.
