Our charity, The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety, has been extremely lucky the past few years to have the same, great, board of Ttrustees.

However, one of our trustees has had to leave us due to work commitments, and we are now looking for a replacement.

Ardrossan resident Sara Dixon joined our board back in June 2020 and, along with the rest of our board, has certainly helped our charity grow over the past three years.

Sara has a broad spectrum of work experience, most of which has connections with the services our charity provides. For example, she had worked with East Ayrshire Women’s Aid and in adult community mental health, but it was her background in counselling that made her stand out from other applicants.

Sara has been an addictions counsellor, a counsellor for people with motor neurone disease, and has been involved in counselling vulnerable children.

She is currently running her own practice as a self-employed counsellor where she works online with adults to help with bereavement, trauma, relationship issues, childhood sexual abuse, self-esteem and many other issues which may benefit from a qualified counselling service.

If any reader feels they could be helped by her services, please feel free to contact Sara Dixon Counselling on 07917 177231.

Now, moving forward, we should have a board of six trustees and, with Sara’s departure, we currently have only five. So: could you be the one to replace Sara?

Just as a reminder, our charity is based in the Barony St John Centre on Princes Street, Ardrossan and it is from here that we hold our quarterly board meetings – the next being our AGM on Tuesday, October 24.

Generally, our board meetings occur on a Tuesday at about midday, so our next trustee needs to be able to attend at this time. The meetings usually last about two hours.

As you may know, our charity provides empowering personal safety training to various groups of vulnerable people including female survivors of violence and abuse, children, sensory impaired people, people with learning disabilities, and people from ethnic minority backgrounds.

If you have any experience of any of these categories, you could be our next trustee.

We would also consider anyone with work experience within the community, police or social services. Basically, anything that ties in with what we do as a charity.

So, if you feel inspired to join our fantastic Board of Trustees, or if you would like to know more about this post, please get in touch – alan@scotcps.org.uk.

In the meantime, as always, stay safe.
